Dear Friend: During former Gov. Rod Blagojevich's sentencing Judge James Zagel said "the fabric of Illinois is torn and disfigured and not easily repaired." Since the late U.S. Senator Paul Simon and former Lieutenant Governor Bob Kustra founded ICPR in 1997, we have been working to prevent harm from coming to the integrity of our state government and working to mend the wrongs that have been done.
Over the past 14 years ICPR has accomplished a lot with support from people like you. Here is just a sample of some the reforms that we have been instrumental in passing for the good of the people of Illinois.
- Campaign Contribution Limits: limits giving to political committees and requires year-round reporting of large donations and quarterly donations of others.
- Pay-to-Play Legislation: prohibits campaign donations from persons with more than $50,000 in contracts to the statewide official who grants the contract.
- Gift Ban: limits gifts, meals and travel payments to certain public officials and bans personal use of campaign funds.
Despite these advances, repairing the damage done to the state by Blagojevich and the corrupt politicians that preceded him will not be easy. We need your help. Your contribution can help us continue our hard work to turn Illinois into a national model for reform. While Blagojevich wasn't the first of Illinois' governors to be indicted and convicted, ICPR endeavors to ensure that he will be the last. From advocating for public financing of elections to defending the Freedom of Information Act to improving Statements of Economic Interest and campaign contribution disclosure, we have been working to put measures in place to hold all elected officials accountable to the voters. With your help we can achieve our goals. Your contribution will help us make great strides in improving Illinois government.
Better still, sign up for a monthly donation or ask your employer if they offer a match to non-profit 501(c)3 organizations, like ICPR. Your contribution on any level will help our hardworking staff fight to protect accountability, honesty and integrity in Illinois. Sincerely, Brian Gladstein Executive Director Illinois Campaign for Political Reform
