Chicago Mercantile Exchange
The Chicago Mercantile Exchange (also known as the CME Group) is the largest futures exchange in the United States. It functions as an international marketplace that connects buyers and sellers of derivatives. The Chicago Mercantile Exchange offers futures and options on futures in four product areas: interest rates, stock indexes, foreign exchange and commodities. These products help commercial enterprises manage price risks related to the uncertainties of supply and demand. In 2002, 558.4 million contracts were traded through the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, valued at $328.6 trillion.
The Chicago Mercantile Exchange is a career patron of Governor Pat Quinn (D).
From January 1, 1993 through June 30, 2004, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange gave $417,900 to candidates for Illinois statewide constitutional and legislative office, 56.8% of which went to Republicans.
Last revised June 2011.
