Democratic Party of Illinois

The Democratic Party of Illinois (DPI) is the state arm of the Democratic National Committee. The DPI is chaired by Michael J. Madigan, Speaker of the House of Representatives and father of Democratic Attorney General Lisa Madigan. DPI contributions are all made in the form of in-kind donations, including dedicated staff time as well as apportioned costs of generic activities aimed at supporting Democratic candidates. In the 2002 primary election, DPI contributed only to endorsed statewide candidates, in races for Attorney General, Secretary of State, Treasurer and Comptroller. Of those, only the Attorney General's race was contested.

The Democratic Party of Illinois is a career patron of former Governor Rod Blagojevich (D), Attorney General Lisa Madigan (D), Secretary of State Jesse White (D), and former Comptroller Daniel Hynes (D).

From January 1, 1993 through June 30, 2005, the Democratic Party of Illinois contributed $16.8 million to candidates for Illinois statewide constitutional and legislative office, all to Democrats.

Last revised June 2011.
