Fraternal Order of Police

The Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), with offices in Springfield and Western Springs, is the largest union of law enforcement officials in the state. Other politically active police organizations include TROOPAC, the political committee of the State Police, and the Policeman's Benevolent and Protective Association.

The FOP is a career patron of Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka.

FOP has given $5000 or more in single amount contributions made to George Ryan, Michael Madigan, and Jim Ryan. From January 1993 through June 2006, police organizations gave $1.203 million to candidates for statewide executive and legislative offices. 53% of the funds were contributed to Republicans. That total includes $426,000 from the FOP, $321,000 from the FOP Chicago Lodge 7, and $300,000 from the Policeman's BPA.
