Harold B. Smith III was a member of the Board of Directors and the Chairman of the Executive Committee of Illinois Tool Works, Inc. (ITW), a multinational Fortune 200 company based in Glenview. He retired on Mat 7, 2010. ITW makes a range of products used in the automotive, construction, electronics, food and beverage, paper products, and pharmaceuticals industries. In addition to ITW, Smith is a director for the Northern Trust Corporation. He is also a trustee of Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, Boys & Girls Club of America, Northwestern University, The Newberry Library, Rush- Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center and the Adler Planetarium. Smith is a former Chairman of the Illinois Republican Party and was Chairman of Corinne Wood's campaign for governor.
