Smith, Leo
Leo A. Smith is an attorney, former CFO of The Ounce of Prevention Fund and director of the Illinois Birth to Five Political Action Committee. In 2002, he served as a part of Rod Blagojevich's transition team. Smith and his wife, philanthropist Heather Steans, live on Chicago’s north side and are prominent political contributors and fundraisers. Along with contributing to candidates in that area, Smith and Steans also contribute through the pro-choice Personal PAC and several other groups focused on education.
Steans was elected as Senator for the 7th District in Illinois in 2008, replacing Senator Carol Ronen, who resigned abruptly mid-term. Smith and Steans had contributed over $30,000 to Ronen throughout her career, and Ronen endorsed Steans in the race.
From 1993 to 2004, Leo A Smith has given $138,000 to Illinois candidates, 90% of it to Democrats. Since 1998, Smith and Steans have made over $800,000 in campaign contributions.
