Professional Independent Insurance Agents
Professional Independent Insurance Agents of Illinois (PIIA), based in Springfield, is a trade association for independent insurance agents and represents 1,500 agencies and 12,000 licensed agents. Most recently, PIIA of Illinois has worked to pass a rewrite of the Producers Licensing Act and legislation codifying the independent agents' ownership of expirations. In 2009, the group changed their name to Independent Insurance Agents of Illinois (IIA of IL.) IIA of IL operates a PAC named IIAPAC (which is still listed as PIIA PAC on the Board of Elections site as of May, 2009.) Through IIAPAC, IIA of IL has been able to enact several laws that benefit insurance agents, mainly through minor legislation dealing with fees and underwriting. IIA of IL is also involved with InsurPac, a federal PAC that advocates for insurance agents.
PIIA is a career patron of former gubernatorial candidate Patrick O'Malley (R). From 1993 to December 31, 2001, PIIA gave $923,280 to candidates for Illinois statewide constitutional and legislative office, 72% of which was contributed to Republicans.
