Walgreens is a national retail pharmacy chain headquartered in Deerfield, Illinois. The company was founded by Charles Walgreen in Chicago in 1901. Walgreen's now employs over 240,000 people, operates over 7,000 locations, and generates over $60 billion in annual revenue. Their business has expanded beyond drug stores to include managed care, health care plans, home health care, and mail service.
Walgreens is a career patron of Senate Republican Leader Frank Watson (R).
From 1993 through June 30, 2003, Walgreens gave $785,031 to candidates for Illinois statewide constitutional and legislative office. 54% went to Republicans.
